Our explicit learning programs are carefully targeted to student needs.
MSL Programs target 4 language areas and mathematics: reading, spelling, comprehension, writing and maths.
Our sessions cater primarily to 1:1 support, although 1:2 instruction is available. MSL caters to an age range of 6 years to Adult.
Enrolments for each program will require a short interview and a base level assessment.
Our programs are specifically targeted Tier 3 interventions, providing intensive assistance to the struggling learner in the appropriate subject skills.
Program length will vary, depending on student needs and availability.

Foundational: Intensive Synthetic Phonics
A Foundational course which offers explicit systematic tutoring in sounds for small word decoding and/or encoding. 1:1 or 1:2 available
HOW WILL THIS HELP MY CHILD?
- Beginners level learning to read or spell.
- Assist in eliminating sound/letter confusions.
- Learn the most common sounds of the English language and how to write them.
Level 1: Intensive Synthetic Phonics
A Level 1 course offering explicit systematic tutoring for word, sentence and passage level decoding and/or encoding and fluency.

- Read small words more accurately and fluently the next level up from Foundational Level.
Level 2: Intensive Synthetic Phonics
A Level 2 course offering explicit systematic tutoring for word, sentence and passage level decoding and/or encoding and

- Learn the skill of reading and spelling small and longer words quickly and accurately the next level in reading and spelling from Level 1.
Level 3: Intensive Synthetic Phonics
A level 3 course offering explicit systematic tutoring for word, sentence and passage level decoding and/or encoding and fluency.

Level 4: Intensive Synthetic Phonics
A Level 4-Intensive Synthetics course offering explicit tutoring for ending rules, blending segmenting and manipulating, alongside sentence and passage reading.

- Learn the skill of reading and spelling longer words with endings quickly and accurately the next level in reading and spelling from Level 3.
Level 5: Intensive Synthetic Phonics
A level 5 course offering explicit systematic tutoring for word, sentence and passage level decoding and/or encoding and fluency.
HOW WILL THIS HELP MY CHILD?
- Learn to read and spell difficult reading and spelling patterns in words quickly and accurately in sentence and short passages, the next level in reading and spelling from level 4.
Multi- Syllable Reading:
Grade 4-10- Adult learner may apply
A course offering explicit instruction in reading accuracy and fluency for those very tricky longer and harder to read words (up to 7 syllables), alongside explicit instruction in the keys to unlock word definitions in text and passage reading.
HOW WILL THIS HELP MY CHILD?
- Gain access in reading very long words required in the higher grades of school. Read these words quickly and accurately and learn how to unlock word meanings in reading.
COMPREHENSION
Comprehension for Writing:
Grade 6-10 Adult learner may apply.
A course which offers explicit instruction in how to read and respond thoughtfully to a variety of writing styles.
HOW WILL THIS HELP MY CHILD?
- Help your child think deeply about what they are reading, understanding the ideas in the text and make better text connections. Learn how to take great notes from reading, write skilled summaries and make relevant inferences from the text.
WRITING
All explicit writing courses- Adult learners may apply.
Foundational writing techniques:
Grade 3-10
- Early years instruction is available in mastery of basic writing skills and foundational principles for expressive writing. (Grade 3-5)
- Instruction in sentence and paragraph level writing foundational skills (Grade 6-10)
HOW WILL THIS HELP MY CHILD?
- Learn the necessary skills for effective writing, and an understanding of the ‘big picture’ required. Organising thoughts and compositions, the process of writing, skilful sentences, and the art of paragraphing are all necessary elements.
Genre writing and essay composition:
Grade 6-10

- Learn the genres and how to write specifically for a chosen genre you select.
MATHEMATICS:
Explicit instruction in mathematics for the struggling learner:
Grades 3-12
Our maths courses are designed to cover the most important areas to ensure successful vigorous growth in all key mathematical areas. MSL Maths instruction is provided to students for catch-up to aged grade peers. Years 8-12 provides explicit instruction in algebraic skills.
